Often Chronic Fatigue Syndrome(CFS) is lumped together with Fibromyalgia.  There are many with Fibromyalgia(FM) who later get CFS.  The first article, back in August about the findings, stated that they only tested a few FM patients but all tested positive for XMRV.   Once they start testing more FM patients,  will this be the defining moment when they can distinctly separate the two? Are FM only patients testing positive or did the patients with FM that were tested also had CFS?  These are some of the questions I have.  I have an interest in this and many of you do also.

“Researchers at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Belgian society of biotechnology “R.E.D. Laboratories” managed to identify a new retrovirus among patients suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, announced the VUB Tuesday in an official statement.

“These results corroborate a recent American discovery. American researchers from the University of Nevada had discovered, in October 2009, that the majority of the patients suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome were carrying a new retrovirus XMRV. Before the  Belgian study, these American conclusions had already been confirmed by Harvard Medical School and National Institute of Health (NIH).

“The research undertaken under the direction of professor De Meirleir (VUB) constitutes an innovation because the virus was discovered among sick patients resulting from all of Europe. In addition, this immunological signature is comparable with that of a patient with AIDS.”
